Trail booking and fees in Madeira, 2026

Since 1 January 2026, every official PR trail needs a time-slot booking on SIMplifica before you start walking. Here is what it costs and how to do it.

Checked against official sources on 28 October 2026

The short version

  • Book a time slot for every PR trail on SIMplifica, the regional government’s portal. You need an account.
  • Most trails cost €4.50 per person. Multi-trail passes exist for 1, 3 and 7 days.
  • Pay when you book: phone signal in the mountains is unreliable.
  • Madeira residents are exempt from the fee.

How to book

Book your trail slot on SIMplifica →

  1. Create an account. Sign up on SIMplifica, the regional government's portal (web only — there is no SIMplifica app). You need an account even to walk alone.
  2. Pick trail and time. Choose the trail, the date and a start-time slot.
  3. Pay online. Payment is taken at booking. Buy a pass if you plan several trails.
  4. Keep the proof. Save the confirmation offline before you lose signal.

Walking a classified trail without a booking is an infraction. Keep the confirmation on your phone, offline.

Trail status

Each official trail is listed as open, restricted or closed. Restricted means only part of the route can be walked — PR 1 currently ends at Pedra Rija. Check the status the evening before and again in the morning.

Questions

Do I need to book if I walk with a guide?

Yes. The booking applies to everyone on a classified trail, alone, in a group or with a guide.
