It was inaugurated by the Vila Baleira Hotels & Resorts group in October 2025 (a March 2026 report announced a soft opening to guests from 1 May 2026), in the rebuilt building that previously housed the group's thalassotherapy centre, and is marketed by the group as a five-star hotel and its first in the luxury segment. Booking.com shows it under licence RNET 6675, which the national register lists as the Vila Baleira conjunto turístico (resort complex) it belongs to.

The hotel stands beside the Vila Baleira Porto Santo resort, on the coast road (ER 120). In a straight line, Vila Baleira's main church is about 3.5 km away, the airport about 4.3 km, the ferry harbour about 5.4 km and Ponta da Calheta about 2.2 km. OpenStreetMap shows the Vila Baleira Porto Santo bus stop about 110 m away. Booking.com describes the beach as a few steps from the hotel.

News coverage of the opening describes a new wellness brand, ORA, that combines traditional sea-water treatments with modern relaxation methods, and a fine-dining restaurant using local produce; a March 2026 report names it ORIGO 34, with chef Diogo Rocha as consultant and seating for 120, 80 of them on a sea-facing terrace. Booking.com lists a spa and wellness centre with sauna and hot tub, a seasonal outdoor pool, a fitness room, a restaurant serving lunch and dinner, a bar, room service, a shuttle service, beauty services and free Wi-Fi. Rooms have garden views or a terrace according to the listing.
