Vila Baleira Porto Santo is a large beachfront resort at Cabeço da Ponta, on the western half of Porto Santo's sandy beach. It is the flagship of the Vila Baleira Hotels & Resorts group and is registered in the national tourism register as a conjunto turístico (resort complex, RNET 6675) — the same registration that Booking.com shows for the group's newer Legacy Ithos boutique hotel next door. Stays can be booked with or without the hotel's all-inclusive programme.
Where exactly is it?
The hotel's own page puts it about 4 km from the town centre; in a straight line, Vila Baleira's main church is about 3.5 km away. Ponta da Calheta, the island's south-western tip, is about 2.2 km away, the golf course about 1.7 km, the airport about 4.2 km and the ferry harbour about 5.4 km, all in a straight line. OpenStreetMap shows a bus stop named Vila Baleira Porto Santo about 90 m from the entrance.
What is nearby?
- Porto Santo beach is directly in front; this end of the beach is less built-up than the stretch by the town.
- The group's Vila Baleira Suites, Vila Baleira Village and Legacy Ithos, and the INATEL hotel, are all within a few hundred metres.
- For Pico do Castelo, the miradouros and Vila Baleira itself, see the Porto Santo region guide and the Porto Santo travel guide.
What does the resort offer?
The official site lists twin and family rooms (classic, partial sea view and sea view) and one- and two-bedroom apartments. Dining is at the Atlântico buffet (breakfast, lunch and dinner), Dunas by the pools (light meals, seasonal) and Ferrum (buffet dinner, seasonal), with the Navegador bar in the lobby, a Ferrum bar and a beach bar. Booking.com lists an outdoor pool, a heated indoor pool, padel and beach volleyball courts, a kids club, a games room and an amphitheatre; rooms have air conditioning, satellite TV and a private balcony behind sliding glass doors. The national register lists spa/thalassotherapy facilities and a diving centre among the complex's leisure equipment.
Practical notes
Booking.com lists check-in from 15:00 and check-out by 12:00. The hotel warns that Dunas and Ferrum close for lunch and dinner from October to May and that restaurant hours change from 25 October — check with reception for an autumn or winter stay.
