Hotel Jardim Atlântico is a clifftop hotel-apartment complex at Caminho do Lombo da Rocha 1 in Prazeres, in the municipality of Calheta on Madeira's south-west coast. It is registered in Portugal's national tourism register as a hotel-apartamento with 97 apartment units (RNET 7299). For walkers, its main asset is position: the Rabaçal trailhead for PR 6 and PR 6.1 is about 7.8 km away in a straight line.
Where exactly is it?
The hotel stands on the edge of the plateau of Prazeres, above the fishing village of Paul do Mar, whose centre is roughly 1 km away in a straight line but several hundred metres lower. Prazeres church square is about 1.3 km away. There is no beach at the foot of the property; the nearest sandy beach, Praia da Calheta, is about 5.5 km away in a straight line.
Which trails and sights are close?
- Levada das 25 Fontes (PR 6) and Levada do Risco (PR 6.1) start at Rabaçal, about 7.8 km away in a straight line. Both need to be booked in advance; see trail booking and fees.
- Vereda do Fanal (PR 13) starts on the Paul da Serra plateau, about 10.3 km away in a straight line, and the Fanal forest is about 9.5 km away.
- The Porto Moniz natural pools are about 13.6 km away in a straight line.
All distances are straight-line distances from the hotel's mapped position; road distances on Madeira's mountain roads are considerably longer.
What does the hotel offer?
Listings on Booking.com and other platforms describe an indoor and an outdoor pool, a sauna, a fitness room, a restaurant serving a buffet breakfast and a bar. Sea-facing balconies are mentioned on the Booking.com listing. Check-in is listed from 14:00; check-out times differ between platforms (11:00 or 12:00), so confirm when booking.
Practical notes
A car is close to essential here. OpenStreetMap shows no bus stop within 400 m, and the trailheads above are reached by mountain roads. If you plan to hike several days on the west of the island, this is one of the bases closest to Rabaçal and Paul da Serra; if you want evenings in a village with cafés on foot, look at Ponta do Sol or Calheta instead.
