TarmarPlace is a nine-room guesthouse with its own restaurant in Jardim do Mar, a small seaside parish of Calheta on Madeira's south-west coast. It is registered as alojamento local in the guesthouse category, estabelecimento de hospedagem (AL 105734/AL), and opened in November 2019. As a base it puts the Rabaçal levadas 14.2 km away by road while you sleep at sea level on the island's sunniest coast.
What kind of property is it?
The national registry lists nine rooms for nine guests. The Booking.com listing shows room types from a budget double to a suite with sea view, all air-conditioned with private bathrooms, plus the Tarmar restaurant (Portuguese and Mediterranean, serving breakfast to dinner), a bar, and a small spa area with a hot tub, sauna and massage. Spa access is by reservation and charged at €10 per adult per stay, and breakfast is extra unless your rate includes it, according to the same listing.
Where exactly is it?
The address is Rua Portinho 13, 9370-411 Jardim do Mar. Road distances (OSRM routing on OpenStreetMap data):
- 6.1 km to Calheta beach and 17.2 km to Ponta do Pargo, the island's western tip;
- 14.2 km to Rabaçal, start of PR 6 Levada das 25 Fontes and PR 6.1 Levada do Risco;

- 32.1 km to the Porto Moniz natural pools;
- 38.2 km to central Funchal and 54 km to Madeira Airport.
How does it work as a walking base?
Rabaçal is the busiest trailhead in the west, and PR 6 and PR 6.1 need a booking and fee; see trail booking and fees. From the coast, the road climbs to the Paul da Serra plateau at about 1,500 m, where fog is common even when Jardim do Mar is sunny, so check conditions before driving up.
